Audiovisual Control Systems Programmer - Applications Programmer III

Annual Salary Range: $59,676 - $85,656

Job Description:

The University of California, Berkeley, is the preeminent public university in the country. We're also one of the leading employers in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are currently seeking an AV Technician for Educational Technology Services.

The ETS Audiovisual (AV) Design and Engineering Group installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs AV equipment in general assignment classrooms. The department also oversees the campus broadcast studio and maintains a large inventory of production-level AV equipment, as well as portable AV equipment for classroom instruction. The primary focus of this position is AV control system programming and UI design for enterprise-wide AV-IT control systems in GA classrooms, complex auditorium facilities, and specialized department conference rooms. Involves designing related databases. Work includes web applications programming, test to production processes, QA, maintenance and documentation applications.

The program is overseen by Educational Technology Services (ETS), the central campus department supporting technology for teaching and learning in classrooms, online via the bSpace Collaboration and Learning Environment, and globally via webcast.berkeley.edu, videoconferencing, and broadcast studio facilities.

This is a career ladder position and the successful candidate will be hired at the level commensurate with their skills and experience.

Responsibilities:

Programming and Database Design:

  • Designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates complex programs for AV control systems on local and enterprise level.
  • Analyzes existing programs or works to formulate logic for new systems, devises logic procedures, prepares flowcharting, performs coding, data analysis, and tests/debugs programs through the application of professional programming concepts.
  • Performs complex data modeling, performance and integration testing and builds screens for a variety of internal and external constituents.
  • Creates intuitive, easy to use interfaces, for AV control systems
  • Designs and uses complex databases.

Testing, Conversion, and Documentation & Standards:

  • Develops and execute moderately complex test plans.
  • Develops conversion and system implementation plans.
  • Trains users in conversion and implementation of system.
  • Gathers, analyzes, prepares and obtains approval of system documentation.
  • Develops project specifications and technical requirements for contract programmers.
  • Recommends and implements changes in development, maintenance and system standards.
  • Understands industry practices and department policies and procedures relating to work assignments.

Requirements:

  • Requires mastery of AMX-Netlinx AV control system application programming functions and Touch panel UI design.
  • Must have skills with other programming languages like Java, C++, XML, PHP, HTML.
  • Requires experience with database programming such as MySQL.
  • Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs across the organization.
  • Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT.
  • Knowledge of department processes and procedures.
  • Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation.
  • Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Has skills needed to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
  • Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Requires ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
  • Has ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
  • Must be self motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
